Just wondering if anybody has ever fed Hissing cockroaches to the arowanas. I have a fairly healthy crop of them breeding and using them currently to feed my Veiled Chameleon but if the arow could benefit from them I wouldn't have to worry about overcopulation of my roaches.

thats, gross lol

they eat insects tho, earthworms, crickets, a roach is kinda like a cricket. maybe rip off any body parts that are super sharp then feed em?

i've never done it tho. but i can't see why not if you have a steady supply of them

I think it would be a great food for the aro. Only worry is your arowana might get a little "spoiled" and want only roaches.

Also if you gutload them for your cham, what will be good for your arowana also. Go with carrot for color maybe.

i would definitely give to my aros. I know some people that do give roaches to aros. i second the feeding them with carrots first.

Arowanas in the wild are primarily insectivores so cockroaches are an excellent foodsource. Since you are breeding the roaches yourself, by all means use them as a "treat" or supplement. And as said, boost their nutritional value with a meal of carrots or broccoli shortly before their "swim" :WHOA:

But to give an Aro a roach especially one that has been caught in or around the house is not too wise. Roaches are notorious for developing high tolerances to chemical insecticides and could end up poisoning your fish.

Yeah that's a bit risky, big chance of insecticide poisoning.

Very True, if you are breeding your own roaches then that would eliminate the chances of chemical poisoning, its safe to feed them to your aro esp since this is part of the natural prey they feed on in the wild aside from crickets, grasshoppers, locusts, etc...basically, everything that Thereal MacDaddy mentioned hehe... try handfeeding if you can, just remeber to wash afterwards, hehe

sweet I'll have to start trying that out. right now I think most of the roaches are a little big for my aro but there are a few up and coming babies that might be perfect once the get a little fattened up.
