hith and uv sterilizer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Only if you up the water changes and keep nitrates as far below 20 ppm at the same time :-) Seriously though-have you upped the water changes and consistantly kept nitrates super low? Well under 20 ppm?

Thats a cute O, looks just like my young one infact. I don't think that is HITH.. oscars are clumsy fish and mine often nicks himself on things. The bottom pic looks white which is exactly what a cut looks like.
If it is a cut then you will know very soon as they heal fast.

I've just got to say that your Oscar is a perfect specimen. I hope you figure it out.

That sucks to see.. A well taken care of personable pet having that happen. May I reccomend seachems nourish as a food dip ? Have you tried using some new life spectrum? My two young ones got there first bit of it I healed it up with melafix and pimafix and started feeding New life spectrum cichlid formula... no more HITH but everyones Oscars are different.

thanks alot for all the kind words

i dont believe its a cut due to the fact that it been there for 6 + months

seachems nourish sound like a good idea

i feed my fish food from kens food
and hirtachi gold but nls doesnt sound like it would hurt

i believe this alll stems from his poor health before i rescued him, in any living thing the vital part of your health stems from your youth when all the growing occurs
i feel as though he was at a disadvantages during that time living in these poor conditions

hes a very tame fish abd besides the minor pitting he is in good health i would hate to lose him because i feel he is one of a kind , i have gtwx 1'' living w/ him and he doesnt even go after him

any way i appreciate all the advice and i have to give kudos to the site i linked cause they have been a great help he has made strides of improvement with there advice

my thinking of the uv steriler was it would kill free floating bacteria in the water
now lets say my oscar is immunosuprest (because of his poor development) any bacteria could make him ill or cause pitting. so my theory is that if i reduce the pathogens in his environment i might be able to focus on his healing and advoid his condition to becoming any worse, its a preventative medicine

now can any one recommend a cheap uv for a 180 gal
