Have you tested your water?
Yes
If I did not test my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be asked to do a test, and that water tests are critical for solving freshwater health problems.
Do you do water changes?
Yes

Hi everyone I think my albino Oscar has developed HITH! At first I thought it was little pits but over the last couple weeks they’ve got bigger and don’t follow a pattern (one mark on top of head 2 or 3 on the side) they seem quite deep! I’ve set up a 80 litre tub to treat him separately for the rest of the tank ( I’ve siphoned off some of my regular tank water and added bacteria from a bottle for about a week now for it to cycle) I’m going to use eSha hexamite to try and cure this! It says it’s a 3 day treatment I’m guessing I don’t do a water change on the hospital tub until after day 3? Will it harm the the fish to keep him in there and maybe give a second treatment a few days after the first course? Will the “holes” heal completely over? Never had to do this before so want to make sure I do it right
Many thanks

I’d post your water parameters including water hardness. Include pictures of the fish. Any tank mates? Are you using any carbon in the tank? Any tank mates? Are you using any carbon in the tank? Tank info? How often are you doing water changes? How much of the water you’re changing out each time? What are you feeding? I’d go ahead and start feeding the medication.

Ph is about 7.5
Ammonia 0 nitrites 0 nitrates 25-30
Not sure on the hardness
Water change is 50% on a Wednesday and 50% on a Sunday!
No carbon is used
Stock is 2 oscars 7 silver dollars 1 royal pleco and a del bichir
Feed northfin and nls

Hard to make it in the pics. I assume you have hard water and I’d check and make sure. In meantime, keep nitrates below 20ppm. Soak the food in Boyd’s vitachem. Think you may have to lower your water hardness. This can be done with mixing half tap with RO water. This is after checking and I assume you have hard water.

Agree with the above, a nitrate level of 25 - 30 ppm is stressful enough to cause chronic HLLE in oscars and other large soft water cichlids.
What size is the tank?
The bacteria that cause HLLE are most virulent in hard water with a pH above 7, and nitrate above 20 ppm.
To prevent the infections, a more frequent water change schedule would be best.
I try to keep my nitrate level below 10ppm, by doing every other day 30-40% water changes.
