Have you tested your water?
No
If I did not test my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be asked to do a test, and that water tests are critical for solving freshwater health problems.
Do you do water changes?
Yes
What percentage of water do you change?
81-90%
How frequently do you change your water?
Every week
If I do not change my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be recommended to do a water change, and water changes are critical for preventing future freshwater health problems.
Recently bought a 180 with about 50 convicts and a green severum, I got rid of about 45 convicts and put him and the rest in a 55 gall (they are not aggressive towards him) the water quality in the 180 was pretty bad and the filters that it had were literal “poop” bricks, I have treated him with, api general cure, pond melafix, more salt, and API stress coat plus (water is around 78 degrees, no colder than that), and yes, the water is not dirty, as I just did a water change IMG_7031.jpegIMG_7032.jpegIMG_7033.jpegIMG_7034.jpeg

HITH doesn't develop over night, it is a chronic disease brought on by poor, or non-optimal water conditions.
It often takes a year or 2 under bad conditions.
If the tanks water was poor before, it's no surprise HITH developed, but it may also be no surprise, it may take a while to get it out of the system.

Other than poor water quality, non-optimum water parameters can also be the cause.
Most of the Heros cichlids come from soft lower pH water of Amazonia, so if your water is hard and mineral rich, this may also stymie recovery.

If your water falls within the range of the parameters above, your simple 80% weekly water changes, over time should take care of the problem, if no other stress producers come into play.
But.......
If your water parameters are more like this (or mine)

These water parameters are not really concussive for proper care of Amazonian species.
There are a number of Amazonian species, I would love to keep, but I have tried, and results have not been stellar
so I consider trying to keep them, and exercise in futility.
My parameters below.
