Ok, I have an Oscar who's probably 6-10 years old, if not older. All of the sudden, he's getting hith rappidly and badly. His water is 0ppm on Amonnia, Nitrate and Nitrite. Filters are in great shape. Everything seems fine. Water changes every two weeks (even then the levels are very very low, I do it out of principle).
Any suggestions or ideas? Just old age?

probably vitamin defecency (SP?) thats the biggest problem with o's and most chiclids also high nitrates can contribute to hith also have heard carbon but i dont use it anyways and internial parasites you can see them hanging out of the shoot.

here's a pic of him as of 5 minutes ago.

Nitrates are 0. I've had carbon forever with no issues, but I'm willing to pull it. I can't see any signs of parasites.

He has a diet of Hikari Cichlid Gold and the other Hikari that's green; can't remember the name.
He also eat's thawed raw cocktail shrimp with the shells and silversides now and then. What else could I give him vitimin wise?

yank the carbon has no use except for removing meds and tea stain water anyways try adding some vitimins to his food and give him a good variety krill ,salmon, worms, waxworms ect i'm sure hes getting good pellets as his main food he might be to old to recover at this point they dont last much longer then ten years good luck!!

i crush up multi vitmins without minerals and mix into the pellets crushed with some gelotin

Cool. Carbon getting yanked manana. I didn't know it removed tea stain. That's a bummer. I like dark water.
Once again, my fish will be eating better than I. lol.

how do you think he looks in your opinion. I've seen bad hith before, but I haven't seen it come on this fast.

that doesent look much like hith disease

you diet seem well balanced as well, and there are no other symtoms

he could just be an aging fella :)

give him a multi-vitamin suppliment and some C suppliments as well

and it will put more year on this lovely looking guy

but i must ask you have added any recent tankmate?

how much water you change?
