I had an oscar that (under my mothers care while I was moving) had HITH so bad i thougt it was dead when I went to pick it up. I moved it into a large, well filtered tankw with a good diet and no carbon.....it is looking great now and only has 1 small hole compared to tons of huge ones. I consider my oscar a sucess storyl....he has come a long way
i've had several oscars over the years. the few that contracted HITH survived. i used a medication called clout. it worked very well on every occasion. the scars do heal in time. . if anyone ever uses the medication clout, read the directions carefully. it WILL KILL pirahna, pacu and fish of that nature.
We had an oscar that HITH and we treated with a med we got form the vet call metronidazole or something like that... worked well and the oscar is still around!
Metro, good water, good diet, and no carbon, all together work wonders. I don't care for oscars but I was given a large pair of altum angels once that I expected to die from Hith and they healed up, the lesions heal slowly.
I had a red-finned pike cichlid that had a horrible case of hith. I increased water changes from once a week to twice a week, and added kosher salt once a week @ 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of water....She has dramaticallly improved since I began doing this
My old oscar got it. All did was start doing big water changes once a week and it went away really fast. Oh and i cut down on the feeders. Do that and it should pull out.
