Magic Place Of Wonders And Delights
OK i have another theroy i read article on HITH and it said it could be lack of sunlight  might be possible considering only one half of the tank gets sunlight and only little sunlight.
I think it maybe this thing below because i clean tank so much these days and feed him well and don't overfeed and only give bloodworms every 3 rd day to avoid mess and yes i always talk about HITH this worrys me as i have grown to like Loco but it just makes me sad and feels like that i just suck and can't look after my oscar which makes me sad :( here is what i think the cause is .......

HEXAMITA SPECIES: These flagellates can cause problems in tropical fish, but their association with HLLE is not conclusive. It is suggested that they may spread through the fish's system, causing damage directly (1), or interfere with absorption of nutrients, with the malnutrition of the fish being the actual cause of HLLE. (2) In favor of this theory is the presence of Hexamita in many fish with HLLE, and that treating with anti-hexamita medications is often effective against HLLE. However, cases of HLLE with no Hexamita present indicate that while Hexamita may be one cause of HLLE, it is apparently not the cause in all cases.

from what it sounded liek you are only feeding him frozen, beef heart and bloodworms arent that different, i would feed only as a treat, you need to start feeding quality staple pellet like hikari gold. period. he will not get any better by feeding him different frozen foods

I do feed those pellets as a staple it is his main thing and i started feeding beef heart once a month about awhile ago.
I run out of brine shrimp a week ago and i need to find time to get some more so then it can go back to orginal diet.
He still had HITH even when i mixed it up with the shrimp and bloodworms becasue it used to be every 3rd day worms then 3rd day shrimp then month beef heart and pellets as the staple so i don't know what is going on i thought i was doing a good job but i guess i am not doing a good job :( .

test the water , PH, ammonia nitrates nitrites?
ph shouldnt affect, you water could look clear but can still be dirty with ammonia and such
i would personally take beef heart and blood worms out of the diet and feed shrimp and silversides instead one day every week

Well i do i agree with the beef heart but i think i might need to see what people think of taking bloodworms out do you have reasons why?

I am going to the store on friday to get brine shrimp

Also Silverside?

and to test my water i will have to go to the LFS and ask them since i don't have one since no LFS stock proper ones and if i am going to spend 50 bucks on a test kit i would like to pay extra for a good one.

does you LFS stock API master kit? i would get that as a water tester

im assuming you oscar is at least 5-6" i only feed my cichlids bloodwormds when there under 3" silversides got better stuff in them

Oscar is 9" long and 6" deep :headbang2 i will finish of the blood worms them but what are silversides a worm? i don't think my LFS have silversides and they hardly have test kits like none really :( .
I don't know it is just so annoying i work so hard and this is the result gets you down and i am already depressed enough and this don't help :(

Thanks for the help i will have to try to get to the LFS on Friday just so busy :nilly: but yer my LFS has good stock and pellets but not very good frozen stuff or chemicals :(

Thanks

To get rid of HITH:

1) Cut down feeding. Half the food comes out there gills.
2) Increase filtration if necessary
3) More frequent water changes

Silversides are frozen bait-fish, they're 3-5" long. You can find them in the frozen foods section at the grocery store.
Ditch the brineshrimp and bloodworms, they're too small for a 9" oscar, switch to larger market shrimp and fish fillets/silversides. As far as fillets go, keep away from anything oily or expensive.:D Tilapia is best ime, cut into cubes or strips 1-2" long.
As posted reduce feeding and increase water changes. Loco will get better in no time. :)

silversides, are a saltwater minnow, they should have frozen ones, i would deffinitely cut back on feeding, bigger water changes maybe 70+% if necessary

feeding blood worms and brine shrimp to a 9 inch fish is pointless more food will go through its gills then its mouth and foul up the water more than warranted
