Well as an experiment I will be taking the plunge and converting my 180g from 3 AC110s to a matten filter. Just a couple questions for those with experience.
1) Trying to decide between 2in and 4in thickness. Swisstropics recommends 4in and it seems like it will help with growing denitrifying bacteria.
2) what flow rate should I go far? Was aiming got 2 times turnover/360gph but Swiss is recommending 3-4. Thinking if I do the 4in I'll need to go to 3-4.
3) Any recommendation on pumps? Was thinking alita or jehmco but don't know how much strength I need. Was thinking the 15lph or 25lph. Only will be running this one tank of it and am concerned about it being quiet. I will be using this for the hfm filter instead of a powerhead.
I will probably remove the AC110s right away but keep my biomax in the tank behind the hfm filter for 4-6 weeks until the sponge builds its own bacteria.
