I've been working on a fishless cycle. My Nitrites topped out at 1ppm staying there for a few days and now today I just checked and they are down to .25ppm. I have a Nitrate reading of 30ppm. However my Ammonia is still at 3.5-4ppm. I haven't added any Ammonia for a day and it's dropped 1 or 2ppm but it's not going down quick. What gives? I thought the Ammonia would go down like the Nitrites...

Does this seem odd or normal? And my Nitrites didn't seem to spike very high with the reading only being 1ppm. Does that number give me any indication as to how much "good bacteria" I have or not really?

well how long have you been cycleing/adding amion to the tank also do you have bio filtration(i know you should know just in case :) )

Alright well I checked this morning and the Nitrite has gone down to 0ppm. The ammonia is still at about 3ppm, down about 1ppm from last night. I think my ammonia is still so high is because I had to much in there once the Nitrite started rising. But since the Nitrite is gone and I have the presence of Nitrates I'm going to assume my tank has cycled. I'll be doing probably 75%-90% water change and getting a few fish tonight. I was thinking of possibly 3...

What do you guys think? Anybody? lol

50% change today, 50% change tommorow, then test ammonia. Don't add fish until the ammonia falls.
