It has been a long time since I've been on the blogs in regard to monster fish! I had kept CA/SAs for quite some time before taking a try at Frontosa. I have had my Frontosa in a 125 for two years and am growing a little restless. I have 13 Burundi and they have grown a great deal. I started with 16 and have been taking out the alpha males as they become too aggressive. So, why post this in the CA/SA section? Well, I miss the personality and diversity of keeping them. My LFS has a single RD/Midas in a tank and it goes nuts when you get close to the tank. My Fronts are absolutely beautiful, however, they are skittish and freak out when anyone other than myself goes near the tank. I guess I don't have a real question other than I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations or is wanting to talk me into selling my group of Fronts and getting some CA/SAs. I absolutely do not want another aquarium setup, I love the my 125 and have a few tanks in storage, but I do not have the time, room, or inclination to setup another tank.

This post is more of a reintroduction than a problem or questions. I used to have Jack Dempseys, RD/Midas, Festae, GTs, Oscars, etc. I like having large fish and my Fronts grow so slow. They are beautiful though. Well, I'm starting to repeat myself. I look forward to checking out the forum and seeing what is going on. This is a great website and the pictures, information, and stories are amazing. I look forward checking it out!

welcome back. I would go for a red devil in a 125g. Thats what mine is in, and at first i was thinking that the tank could be used for something else but after getting a red devil, i couldn't be happier. he is basically one of my center pieces in my living room, if anyone comes over they love to play with him. I would recommend getting one, you won't regret it.

Do you get a handful of them as juvies and let them grow out so you can find the big male in the group? Good idea!

no i got lucky, my Local place gets them in at around 3" and i loved his color right off the bat, but he wasn't scared of me either, and my girlfriend (works at the place) said he is crazy aggressive, like within minutes if some one jumps the divider he kills them.

you could do the juvy thing. they would last till around 3" but by that time you should be able to find a nice male.

ya its a nice tank, the jack and oscar have been together for over a year now, my oscars 2 years old and my jack 1 year old. mind you, the 100g is a 6' tank, and i am in the process of selling my sagittae due agression and trying to breed.
I wouldn't keep anything with a red devil though, mine is crazy and would kill them in a heartbeat

If I were you I would keep the Fronts and maybe thin it down a bit and add a Tang. to the mix. The fish you're talking about are a dime a dozen no pun intended. I have CA/SA and Africans all in different tanks of course and since you're not wanting to set up another tank just add something really cool to your existing tank. I'm thinking Bentichromis Tricotti or something along those lines.

Driftwood,
I did some "googling" on your suggestion and am very intrigued by your idea. Where would I find these interesting and beautiful Tanganyikans?

I remember seeing some on Aquabid a while back. I have a pair in my Frontosa tank and not only are they elegant but they swim around alot. Just BE VERY CAREFUL about the size you get. If you're Frontosa are huge and you get small ones the Fronts may kill them and I would scale your colony back to a smaller amount. Also Tricotti aren't cheap either.
