im thinkin about building my tank off this design. love the fact that it can be took apart, and put back together. just add silicone!! :D

but one thing concerns me....the damn sides on his tank look like they r pushed out in a couple photo's. or maybe its just me. or maybe there not pushed out - its a just a fail job of lining up the wholes when drilling..

what you all think??

Looks really familiar.Either that or an identical tank was in the diy forum 3-4 years ago.Great idea.

I saw that a while back and it is an interesting idea for getting large tanks in and out of the house. I would go the same route if you wanted to have a tank that can be moved. Like he said in the article if you make fiberglass and resin panels then hold it all together with the rods with nuts taking up the pressure the silicone should just do the job of sealing not holding it together. That tank is a bit overbuilt IMO and with a few design changes could be a better tank with less material.

yeah i thought it was overkill myself. im changing a few things, instead of doubling up on 2x4's im gonna use 4x4s in there place. replace a 2x4 with a 2x6 on the front panel where glass goes. and he said he wishes he would have went with 3/4" plywood and less bracing instead of 1/2" and more bracing. well my local lowes has some 1/2" that is hella cheap. i can buy 2 sheets of 1/2" or the price of 3/4" and have money to spare. so may end up doubling up on the plywood for a 1" thick walls and less bracing. he also says he used 1/2" glass. was really suprised about that. building the tank won't be a problem i dont think. figuring out how to make a DIY sump, filtration etc. on a budget is what has me confused. ive looked @ some stuff on here but most dont have pics that i can see.

oh and yes i kinda do need to be able to take the tank apart, i rent my home and dont plan on living here forever. taking it apart would be so much easier to move. if it was my own home i'd probably build a monster shark tank or something. :D
