Native, Cichla, Geo community, or Tanganyikan community?

SETUP:
240G (Approx. 6 long x 3 high x 2 wide)
Fluval FX5 and AC500
Low lighting - 48" Flourescent Double Bulb Fixture (Might upgrade)
Sand (~1-2" depending on where you are in the tank)

Here is what I am thinking:

Natives
-Pros: Free since I can catch them; No heater needed
-Cons: I have to go catch them; Potential for diseases and other crud

Cichla
-Pros: One of my favorite large fish; Appealing
-Cons: HUGE; Expensive to feed; Lots of waste - potential filter upgrade/addition; Expensive initial cost as well

Geo
-Pros: Good colors and size; No light upgrade or filter upgrade necessary
-Cons: Not as active as other fish; Not sure about Geo compatibility; Expensive

Tanganyikan
-Pros: Awesome diversity; Great colors; Relatively easy to access and inexpensive
-Cons: Aggression issues; Must purchase rocks and powerheads; May need to purchase lights if I decide to include Tropheus or Petrichromis

SO: Let me know what YOU think. Give me ideas, suggestions, combos, harassment, consoling from the harassing, and anything else you feel is remotely relevant.

Out of what your choices are I would pick the peacock bass , just because they are Awesome!...

I would also think about a Festae pair
or a single male umbee ( might have to upgrade later)
Or Trimacs, they are really awesome glassbangers

I think the tank would look amazing with any of the choices I listed ... BUT the thing is ... You have to pick the fish You like , Do some searches on here for all the species that gets mentioned and learn about them ... Then pick what fish suites you the best ,Then you will have the perfect tank for you :)

I have thought about Festae's before but not sure. Not really a big fan of Umbees or Trimacs.

The thing is, I like all of what I listed. Just trying to get an idea of anything I missed as far as which one I should choose.

Feel free to throw up more ideas.

roll with a native tank and get a couple largemouths. i am disappointed however that you listed having to go catch them as a con.... fishing is the fun part!

I would go with a herd of alligator gars and flock of rtc's.

dont pay any attention to this guy he is obviously unknowledgable about any of the two animals he listed.

i wouldnt do the chicla they would get to large for your tank. I think a colony of geos would look nice.

Haha, apparently someone doesn't know sarcasm?

you want color and want it to be active hmmm...

geos are very colorful but not to active from what I understand ..

so as much as it pains me since I am into Sa/Ca cichlids...
I would pick the Tanganyikan's colorful , very active , cheap , granted your going to have to buy rock but your tank will look awesome , a 240 can hold quite a few so you can have gobs of color
