im setting up a 29 and at some point upgrading my diy co2. i called around my city and there really is only 1 place i found that i could refill my co2 bottles at. My issue is thats its way across town(= alot of gas$$$$). I found this http://www.greenleafaquariums.com/co2-regulators/red-sea-co2-regulator.html#

now i know it depends on how many plants i have(i think)but am i going to be going through tanks left and right with my tank size? and is there something eles that might be a problem with this set up that you see?......is it even worth it..thanks:popcorn:

I think it could be dangerous with out having a PH controller with it.
More detail can be givin by other members about this.

Personally, I say why waste money on a paintball tank/regulator instead of just forking over a little more and getting a real CO2 cylinder?

The little paintball tanks won't last you very long on a 29g tank - they're better for <10gal.
If distance is that big of a concern, then get a 20lb CO2 tank. My first refill came after about 15months on my 120gal. I expect it to last a bit longer on my 75gal. There's minimal price difference from filling a 5lb to a 20lb - I'm thinking it was $8 vs $12. 20lb tanks are kinda tall though, mine won't fit under my stand. So take some measurements before you head out to get a tank.

The red sea paintball reg is good, but not great for larger tanks. If you need co2 refills, check with welding supply shops, and bars. These two are the easiest to get refills from.

yeah i would say pay the extra money and get a regulator for a regular co2 bottle, youll be glad you did down the road.

and as for the ph controller, i say this is more of a luxury than a necessity. just get a good regulator/solenoid on a timer and a drop checker and you should be good. once you get the everything fine tuned youll see that a ph controller is not even necessary and essentially just turns into a ph monitor. im getting a ph controller simply because im away from home for most of the day and i want to keep everything in check while im gone

if your worried about driving and gas be sure you calculate this that the largest paintball co2 tank i could find was 20 oz. thats a little over a pound so you would have to drive to fill it up 5 times (roughly) for ever one time you would have to drive to fill up a 5 pound tank and so on up the list. so in the long run you may not save anything on gas by going with a paintball tank.
