i dont know who came up with the gph ratings for these things.. but IMO they lied...

anyway... this is for the PF-800 rated for 800gph... im guessing the most i could get it to flow was somewhere around 300gph and it sounded like a freight train

the bulkhead on the pf800 is slightly smaller than 1".. i think its metric or something.. anyway.. the piece of pvc that it comes with is worthless.. the prefilter is nice but also pretty worthless.. i tried a million different combos and mods to these pieces and could not get any more flow or quiet the noise..

after several different tries this is the best thing i could come up with

DSC03778.jpg

a modifyed dorso pipe... its 2 3/4" elbows dremeled down and siliconed to a 1" straight.. obviously there are 2 3/4" holes in the straight piece..
the small slits on the bottom of the straight piece help it fit into place.. the bigger missing chunks are what happens when you drop it just right .. they sit inside the bulkhead and have no effect on anything...
this cuts the noise level down a LOT but it still leaves it louder than i wanted it to be

a vented cap is a must.. they sell caps but well.. i dont know wha ti did with mine so painters tape is good enough.. the hole thats in there was made with a pen.. its a bit too big and from time to time i gets a bit noisy.. i got it quiet enough.. so good enough for now
i also put a piece of sponge media between next to the pipe to give the water something to "flow" down insted of "falling"... pot scrubbies fit perfectly as well..

i also added a second U pipe.. the original is on the right.. i found the one on the left at a LFS.. its somewhere around 1.25" and 1.5".. im not really sure.. this helped a lot ..

the air bubble in the tube on the right clears up on its own when i run the pump wide open

the bamboo keeps the cat from trying to eat the plants in the tank

im sick and half out of it... so im sure theres questions..

That's a great idea. It might be a bit big for the overflow that I'm using but it gives me some direction. Thanks for taking the time to write it up!

Get well soon:)

I cut the piece of PVC that came with it . The cut was a 45 across the top of the pipe, lengthwise. placing the higher angled section against the intake tube box..creating a nice gentle flow into the pipe cutting down on the gurgling..

sorry about reviving this thread. But just putting a sponge in it will reduce the sound.

also is there a way to avoid losing the siphons in HOB overflows

the gph rating i believe is through a full siphon. 1in tube can do a tremendous amount. its just that the pump is limiting the result.

just my though.
