Anyone got one? What do you like about it? Dislike?

Good brands?

My brother has a 20g bowfront and is looking to run a HOB refugium. I think it will be a good fit for his system. I currently have a 29g tank and was thinking of putting together a sump overflow box combo but if a HOB refugium can give me what I need, maybe I'll go that route.

Any experience/advice is welcome.

An interesting thread. I wonder if you can switch out the impellar for a AC110 - You'd be able to hold a lot more chaeto and or live rock. I don't think I'd feel comfortable putting sand in the filter... just my opinion.

Definitely a great idea though. I'll look into it.

What would you use for a light though?

Yes, you can switch the impellers; they're all supposed to be compatible with each other to some extent if I remember correctly. Putting sand in there will be fine because it's after the impeller assembly and probably will never come in contact with it.

As for lighting, you could use a clip-on light of some sort; chaeto isn't supposed to be terribly demanding, so most reasonably powerful fluorescent bulbs should work.

Awesome. I think I might try this. My brothers tank could really use a refugium.

What size AC/impellar combo would you recommend for a 20g bowfront? 12-15lbs of live rock, mostly zoas, xenia, mushrooms, PC lighting...
