I have a 100g tank with one AC110 already on the one side, but when I went to put the second filter on the other side I couldn't do to the frame.

I do not want to risk trimming the frame to make the filter fit.

So, I am think a canister. I thought about a sump, but I just can't seem to get my head wrapped around how to build one. I have read all the DYI post here and I just don't get it. I am not really sure I need one for a 100g tank.

Back to the canister question. I just need one for Bio, becuase the AC110 will do the mechanical just fine.

How big a filter should I get?

Stock will be 25ish mbuna's

I'm a fan of the Rena XP series....either and XP3 or XP4...I did put one of the Marineland canisters on a tank for a customer the other day, and found it to be really nice...The largest one (rated at 100 gph) comes with four media baskets and includes some bio balls and some ceramic cylinders, so all you'd have to do is buy some more biological media if you were just using it for biological filtration.

If it were me, I'd keep the bottom basket with the included mechanical filter pads just for additional mechanical filtering. You would still have three baskets for bio filtering.

I love the XP3s. I have three of them. My only wish is that the design of the input tube was a little better in terms of the way it fits together, etc. And I wish they weren't bright blue!!! Haha. I could always go get another type of intake tube to put on them, just haven't.

OK, so I got a FX5 for 149.99 (I live close enough do to local pick up).

Do I need to leave the foam around the baskets?
Should I have the intake on the other side of the tank from the AC110?

I have the same HOB's with the same problem. I just put weather striping on it and I have it leaning against the wall. I also have the lid not pressed down all the way. It just "sits" on top now.

Why not just move the aquarium farther away from the wall:confused:Not sure that this is the problem the OP is having.

I can't move it. Its just about as big as the closet it sits in. The lip to the front of the wall sits so close to the front that I cant use my canopy either. Its hard to tell by the photos. Its the only place in the house I can put my 135. My desk covers part of it too :(
