What are some?

I know some of you are managing to make money off of your fishkeeping, enough to cover maintainance and then some, but I think for most of us our fish tanks are a sort of debt that we will never pay off as long as they are running. My tanks definately do not bring in a dime,LOL

Anybody breaking out the ol' metal detector on the weekends and hunting for buried treasure?LOL

no but seriously.........

I took up gem cutting decades ago. I don't do the metal work but, I cut uncommon stones/gems and sell them as specimens and for mounting into findings (rings, brooches, necklaces, etc.) I also do intarsia and scrollsaw woodwork and make rocking animals (never made a classic rocking horse. I make rocking dinosaurs, giraffes, llamas, ostriches, gators, etc.)

i use to sell reptiles and fish it broght enuf money to pay my mom for eletricity and for my fish and all my tanks...and my pockets

That sounds awesome, how does one "take up gem cutting"?I may be interested.;)

I'd already been digging dinosaurs for a while before I learned how to cut, grind, and polish gems. Someone asked me for a piece of my red dino bone to cut for a belt buckle. When I saw how it came out, I joined the SD Mineral & Gem Society and took classes. When I started gaining some proficiency at it, I bought my own equipment.

Here's a coupla recent cuts. The first is a raw (as collected in the field) piece of dinosaur eggshell alongside a piece I domed and polished to accentuate the pores the dino embryo respirated with. The 2nd is a piece of dino bone I collected in CO. It's been formed into a cabochon (dome polished stone). No dyes ever in my stonework. The green is a bentonite mineralization. The reds are jasper.

I've been trying to make money with my acting like I'm in porn. Hasn't really gotten me anywhere.:(
