These guys have had a rough week because I have re-arranged the tank so much but I think they have finally settled in. They look as though they are just about to spawn or already have. Anyways, I wanted to post pics and a video because their colors are absolutely amazing! Even the male is vibrant. No nuchal humps though. I guess that is typical for this species.

PS: unforutnatley the "third wheel" did not make it :(.

WOW!, man! They look great! I wish mine would have worked out. He ended up killing the deppi, and turned his attention to my lyonsi. I have now found him a new home, to an MFKer that lives near me. Really too bad, but what can you do... sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

Amazing pics... good luck on spawning them!

Thanks, and yea cichlids can be unpredictable. I am happy these guys paired up. They had some problems in the beginning but the flower pots have worked well. little spots for the female to retreat that the male cannot really get too. 2012 has been a good year. My centrarchus are currently guarding a mass of free swimmers and I am hopeful I will be able to raise these guys to sellable size.

Looking really great!

One thing... That rock on the front left of the tank looks really sketchy to me... Looks like it's just waiting for a fish to get spooked and knock it over and crack the tank (if it's glass).

Looking good Reggie. Bummer on the third wheel.

Rich - sorry he didn't work out for you. So weird, I had all four hogs and the deppi in the same tank with little problems...

Yea its too bad... funny thing was he was flaring at the other pair last week through the glass then one day I found him sulking then dead. Poor guy had some nice color on him.

Thanks, hadn't really noticed the rock but better safe than sorry. I will take care of it.

Thanks

There were very few though... She picked a very inconvenient spot to spawn. The small pots are just so she can fit in there to get away from the male but unfortunately for me, I got the measurements a bit off so he can sometimes squeeze himself in there if He really tries. I saw her drop quite a few outside the pot and then swim after them and eat them before the silver dollars did. I am not even sure if thees were fertilized successively but this is their first spawn so I expect "errors".
