here's a fish we have at work that we can't seem to ID

some of the girls at work thinks it's a two tone wrasse
Halichoeres prosopeion

which im totally not buying

i think it's some type of hogfish... it almost looks like some pink color morph of a coral hog, there's a faint darkening of the skin where there would be on a coral

bump... and yes i know the pictures suck... I took them and with a phone

BUUUUUUUMP!!!!

What size is that fish? It looks sort of like a large washed out Bodianus diana. They lose their markings as they mature and end up being "a big pink hogfish" as do several other Bodianus species. Also some Bodianus sp. are pink as juvies and color/mark up as adults.
I will defintely say not any kind of Haliochoeres. Although it may be some kind of Cheilinus sp.Or I could be waaaaaaaaaaay off. I have never seen those bright red bits on any diana's ever so who knows. It's hard to tell from the pics and wrasses are one of the largest familes of fish on the planet so have fun trying to tax him out!

A good tip is to be sure and examine all the color phases/changes a species goes thru before ruling them out as candiates.

it's about 6-7 inches

does look like a diana now that i think about it
