well I tried the first feeding on the hog,he didnt take it yet.He looks and acts extreemly healthy though,do you think its to soon, just brought him home saturday?

Mine would never take pinkies, just hissed at them and pushed them away.

Had to do frogs and lizards when he was a baby and move up to adult mice, which he has no problem with.

Though it's speculated that the amount of hair they ingest in captivity leads to a high mortality rate, since they eat mainly frogs and lizards in nature.

How old is the snake? What are you trying to feed it?
Its pretty common to have to scent the food items with frogs/toads/lizards to get them started on anything but.

was it already feeding on pinks when you got it jason? Did they say anything about that?

A couple of tips that have worked for me: Try braining the pinkie/or chopping it in half (defrost only as i know live are used in the US!),or a small piece of trout fillet,if it takes the trout, start scenting the pinks.

it is only a month or so old,Brian from snakebytes was feeding it thawed pinks unscented. So thats what I tried, but like he said to me this morning,it is most likely from the traveling to the shows and now its new environment at my house.Maybe I should give it some time to settle. He said if it dosnt eat later then he will help walk me through some techniques.Ive had to force feed pythons in the past and cared for many types of snakes but never a hognose so Im just feelin a little jittery.Ive studied and read everything I can but you know, sometimes someone on here gives new advice, thanks all, keep it coming if you got more.

I wouldn't be worrying too much at this stage mate. Sometimes new snakes will eat straight out the bag, as it were, some don't. Give it a few days or so, brain a pinky then try that. If it won't take it off you, maybe leave it in a small box with it overnight. You'll see then if it's just a shy young 'un or if you might have to go down another road with scenting etc.

hey guys,I tried to feed him again and at first no luck.I disgustingly dipped the mouse in sick ass tuna juice and it worked.I hate tuna juice, hopefully this doesn't last too long and he will take them straight and not on the juice.
