This is my first spawn from my labs. I would like to know the best time to pull the female & place her in her isolation tank so she can spit. I have a cycled 10 gallon tank wit a sponge filter ready. First I will have to move my C.Moorii fry to a 29gallon grow out tank. Thanks Steve

You can move her just about any time.

I would wait until she's been holding at least 2 weeks. If it's her first try she may swallow the eggs anyway. With my mbuna if they hold longer than a week then they tend to hold full term.

Ditto.

With this being her first spawn anything can happen. One of my females is a great mom while the other is not so much. The good mom I can leave in isolation (w/fry) for a week to ten days to recoop. and she won't eat any of her kids. The other one is hit or miss. Next time the mommy dearest spawns, I will allow her to spit and then immediatly remove 25-50% of the fry to another tank. I heard that if you remove a precentage of the fry it makes the parental bond stronger. Now that was info. on New Worlds, but would make sense for any chiclids, I think.
