Alright so i have a fish holding as of today, it was sold to me as a "blue ovatus", in with various peacocks. I was just trying to figure out who the male was. Regardless its going to be a hybrid since i only have one of them, so i was just going to strip the eggs out. Can anyone make an ID? Is it a blue ovatus...i'm really not familiar with the haps.

I have a male n. venustus and female n. livings in there, the rest are all mbuna. I have a rusty that prefers labs, and the only other fish breeding are the elgongatus likoma.

I suspect its the ven, because over the past few weeks he is starting to turn blue, hes just reaching the 5" mark. Any ideas? Thanks!

female haps are so tough... also, she may just be holding eggs... I have a few females that do that...

ohhh, with that said....When i brought this fish home from work (fish shop) it was holding, and now that i think of it the others in the tank all looked like females.

it looks like it might be a female fryeri...

After looking at some pics of females i'm pretty sure thats what is. It does appear to have stripes like most of the pictures do too.

When she was holding the last time she ate the eggs within a few days, i'm wondering if i should just let her keep them for now then...

S. fryeri hybrid IMO. It has an yellow trim to the dorsal and 3 faint black spots along the flanks, much like O. lithobates, only it doesn't look quite like O. lithobates either.
