I have a 13 inch Albino Oscar. He has hole in head and i started treating him about a month in a half ago. I used Jungle hole in head guard. I did to 2 week treatments and it looked like it started to heal and then started to come back just as fast. I just started treatments again this week. He is in a 46 gallon bow front (I know its to small. Just got him a 240 but im in the process of building a stand and saving money for pumps ect.) how many treatments should it take to get rid of it. I have been adding aquarium salt and rasied the temp to around 82-85. I also do not have a hospital tank either I have been treating him in this tank. What do yall think? is he to far gone? Any tips to help him? Anything will help Please. Thanks heres some pic's,

What is your nitrate level?

I try my best to keep it under 40

I know it's a small tank, and so you don't have a lot on your side here, but I'd shoot for under 20. 40 is actually pretty high for any fish, and really high for these large cichlids prone to HITH in the first place. This is what jumps out at me as something that could really hinder his progress in healing.

Edit: That pleco is NOT helping matters at all! I'd hurry up with the larger tank -- it could be that this is what the fish needs in order to heal.

Edit again: Oh, there's two plecos. You've got to get these fish into a tank that can handle their waste.

ya I know im trying my best. thanks

I've said time and again that long term nitrates over 20 ppm in an Oscar tank more often than not results in HITH. Dump the meds in the trash, they're worthless as you should be able to tell because they haven't worked. Don't spend a dime on meds, just do multiple weekly water changes. Enough to keep your nitrates as far under 10 ppm as possible while he's healing. You're way way overstocked and without multiple weekly water changes you're never going to get the nitrates under control enough for the Oscar to heal. People would be far better off if instead of throwing medicine at fish, they'd just throw a LOT more clean water into their tanks.

I do 30% water changes mon weds fri

But that's not what I said. You're super overstocked-an Oscar and 2 Plecs in a 45 g tank? My suggestion was to do enough water changes to keep nitrates under 10 ppm while he's healing. In that stocked of a tank? You're probably looking at 50% every day or every other day. In my opinion.

Ok.

First, hurry up on that 240g, that may be his only chance at life. Stop feeding him any live feeders, only pellets and maybe freeze dried and frozen foods to keep it varied. Do several large water changes a week. Vamp up the filtration, keep up the salt and meds. Make sure you are not mixing medications, it can screw things up. Put the plecos in your quarantine tank because at the moment that 46g is violently overloaded with waste. Good luck
