would thi s be harmful to my fish? it has been in there for atleast a month just noticed it today when i pulled it out to move it it smelled like sulfar... im pretty sure it uses mercury which is why im concerned.. its in the trash now needless to say is there something i should do like a HUGE water change or just let it be now that its removed

Thermometer? It's highly unlikely that it contained mercury. Thermometers nowadays use alcohol with a dye. As long as there's no broken glass in your tank, you're fine.

thats more or less wat is bugging me
you wouldn't expect mercury to smell like sulfur either.

Mercury in thermometers was gone years ago it's simply too toxic and makes the theremometers a pain to properly dispose of.

Mercury has been causing defects in humans for hundreds of years. Its a tasteless and odorless highly toxic neurotoxin and your fish would have already died if that were the case.

The sulphur smell is being caused by something unrelated.

Is the tank fully cycled?
What are the water parameters?
Gravel or sandbed? and How deep is it?

i dont smell sulfur in the tank just when i hold the thermometer to my nose... so basically i have nothing to worry about i guess... the tank is fairly new id say a month so its pretty close i assume nitrites and ammonia is 0 i dont have a test for nitrate however i just make sure to do water changes often
