I noticed one of my tems has the beginnings of hith. I have 4 and they are about 12-13 inches and are fed a veriety of pellets.

I checked my perameters and one stood out to me. My ph has gone from 7.6-7.8 to around 8.2. Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 15.

Could the ph be causing the hith? If so how do I cut the tap water with rodi? I have a unit it’s not set up I’m wondering if it’s worth it or is there a better way to lower ph? Thanks

Swing in ph could be stressing out the pbass. That could can cause hith. Would consider adding some peat moss to ur tank and will eventually lower the ph. Remove any carbon. Soak pellets in a vitamin supplement. Make sure sure water is pristine as ur already doing. Remove any stray current.

Why remove current?

Thanks. I don’t run any carbon on the tank however it is on a drip system which uses carbon to remove chlorine. I’ll check for stray voltage as the silver dollars do nibble the power head cords.

I have read that thread and seen the vid before it seems the reason the holes open up is unknown. but once it occurs the bacteria takes up residence and causes the real damage.

It’s tough to say what exactly causes it because there are different reasons that can cause it. But you have to kinda treat it like it’s all of the things combined. I know that’s not the answer your looking for but hopefully someone that knows more can chime in.
