I have an old (9yrs) and big (16inches) Pentenia Splendida who has always had a few indentations around his face but now seems to be developing more.
He eats well and has beautiful colour, should I be worried??
Sorry the pics are very great but they have got worse since then.
I read the sticky and have thought about removing some of the large Sailfin Gibbiceps from the tank.
He lives with three of them in a 180g and they do produce copious amounts of waste material that I try to vaccum off every week but maybe thats not enough.
The cats are all over 12 inches and maybe there are just too many in that size tank.
How are your water perameters? Ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates? The key to preventing/ getting rid of HITH is clean water. I'd start by doing heavier water changes and picking up some melafix to help the wound heal faster and prevent secondary infections.
I am talking from personal exp melafix is not needed just do allot of water changes keep tank clean my oscar got HITH really bad been battling it for months finaly started healing becasue i did 3 water changes a week kept him on a good diet .

And that is a shockingly nice normal color morph snook....Try to feed much much much less.....Big ol' cichlids do not need much food at all...He should eat about 4 large pellets every other day....Loose all but 1 pleco....Feed him a few algae tabs at night, nightly...
