Hey guys, I need some help once again. Just when I think I have things figured out with my pbass! A little over a month ago I noticed that my 7" Pbass has hole in the head/lateral line disease. I called my lfs and he immediatley suggested that I test the tank for stray voltage. I did and found 34volts ac current in the tank. I purchased a grounding probe which corrected that and the fish showed some improvement quickly. Now it seems it's getting much worse. From what I understand most people link HITH to stray voltage, high nitrates, or poor diet. I have a grounding probe, my nitrates are around 40ppm (normal according to my lfs), and krill is the diet. What else could be causing this problem? should I treat with HEX-OUT? My water always tests well. I am so lost on this one. Any help would be greatley appreciated.

I've never kept pbass before but 40ppm seems a little high for any fish. Do a water changer and get them lower. Theres a great article on hith on mfk. Try soaking there food in a liquid multi vitamin. Are you feeding soley krill?

just krill alone will cause fattty liver disease and liver damage. you MSUT MUST MUST feed a varied diet. try to rotate between Krill, Hikari Silversides, Massivore Delite, and chunks of fish fillet.

what youve got is definitly wither a vitamin deficiency because of lack of varied diet or the fish has already begun to develop liver problems.

Thats easier said than done, most bass only eat one thing...........Very hard to have a mixed diet.

i disagree wholeheartedly. you just gotta keep trying to feed them more foods.

I agree your nitrates are to high ... from what I have been told they need to be kept at 20ppm or lower.

There are tons of theories as to what causes HITH, which is correct... I really do not know .

I do suggest that you buy some fish multi vitamens to soak your bass food in , and I do knot know if it works but I was reading a big als catelog and they have a "medicine" that claims to help treat/ cure HITH its from jungle labs anyone tried this ?

And FYI do not feel bad about your fish getting HITH I have seen this disease happen with fish that have dream aquariums to live and have nothing but the best food possible so it is not just you.

I said easier said than done, i did'nt say it was impossible, but for the future Bass owners out there, don't be upset if they never eat anything but Krill, Massivores or Pellets...........Just be happy your not spending a small fortune on LIVE FOOD.

try going to the grocery store and picking up some tiger prawns, salmon and other frozen fish. I find mine has no problem with these foods.

varied diet is best but like said above it takes time to get to that stage where they will take a variety, its fare more likely that they got the hith from your water then what you are feeding, krill is fine, even as a staple for a while. 40ppm is really high, your lfs probably isn't the most knowledgeable, hith is mostly caused by bad tank params, i have a sneaking suspicion that your tank is probably under filtered, what are your specs? tank size? all params?

also i would do larger weekly water changes until you get your params under control, at the least, also add some salt, its helped me in the past with hith
