So I know that Sevrums naturally have little tiny holes on their head and "nose" for sensation and whatnot, but how do you tell if it's hlle? My sevrum is about 8-9 inches long, my water has no ammonia, no nitrites, and nitrates are a constant 20 ppm. The pH is 8.0 out of the tap. The holes that concern me are symmetrical, above his eyes. They are small, about the size of a pinhead, but they are large enough to worry me. They haven't gotten bigger in the 6 months he's had them. Also, I feed him a variety of foods -7 different flake/pellet foods, and 4 different frozen-so he has good nutrition. Should I worry?
Sorry bout the long post, but I'm worried for my baby!!:(

It wouldnt be Hexamita if its been going on for 6 months. The pH is a bit worrying. Why not try to add driftwood as a buffer to keep the pH down. You could also add peat into your filter to lower the pH. His diet is extremely good from what you say. Hexamita is usually caused from poor water quality. Whats your water change schedule. Last but not least, can you get any pics of this?

hole in the head?

Actually, I have a piece of driftwood in there that is y-shaped and measures about 3 1/2 feet long by 24 in. tall. It has no effect on the pH, which I think is weird. My water changes are 50% once weekly, so I think quality isn't an issue...maybe I should try peat. Is that something you have to replace on a regular basis, or does it last a while?
Thanks!!
