Anybody ever use it? Is it any good? I have a few emperor cichlids that had HITH when I got them. I have been doing 50% water changes weekly for about 4 months and salt, but no improvement.
The only thing I did to heal (bad) HITH was keep the water clean, remove the carbon, and vary the diet. I dont know if they're related, but this is what has worked for me.
Thanks everybody. I am going to give it a try. I'll post an update in a month or so about the results... And thanks gr8karma for putting this in the right forum.
I recently lost 2 4-yr old oscars due to hith. I di duse the methods described by most as far as feeding and water changes along with 5 bottles of hith guard over a 2 month period. So it never did a darn thing for my guys.
I had some early signs of HITH in one of my firemouths. I did about 50% wc for 4 weeks and did about three treatments of the hole-n-head guard, and it seemed to clear it up very well. As someone said before, try boosting up their diet with more vitamins and minerals.
Metronidazole from kvvet.com. 100 250mg tabs for $13.99. That's enough to treat 1000gals. If you REALLY want to treat the HITH...thats the way to go...almost guaranteed improvement.... Another thing that really helps is makin your water a little bit harder, as it seems fish kept in hard water have less problems with HITH. Hope that helps out a little bit for yaz anyway.
