Holes in back panel for overflows?

Im thinking of making a 6x2x2 glass tank @ work. I work at a glass shop Can I drill 4 holes in the back panel of glass and install bulkheads....thus draining down into my sump? And then place two return lines above them?

Will it work?

Sure, just make sure the glass you are going to use is 1/2" thick and you should be fine.

I like horizontal overflows, quieter and safer, but at the cost of flow rate. Horizontal flows slower the a vertical stand pipe.

Been workn @ the glass shop 3 weeks now. A buddy of mine owns the shop. Glass and acrylic are spendy. It costs about $400 to make a 6x2x2 out of 1/2",...a lot cheaper than a new tank. So far we have messed around and made a 12''x12''x12''....lol.
