Yesterday I set a 29g tank that was giving to me for free. I did so to be a sick tank for my fishes. after I finish all the setup and stuff I looked at my 150 and noticed that one of my bala sharks had a early sighs of hitch or some like that. I also noticed that my JD the biggest fish in my tank ( I had him for 3 and a half yrs now) had some demaged fins. It didnt look that bad on both fishes so I salted the tank and raise the temperature higher. 35 mins ago, I came from my friends house with a sick fish to put on my sick tank and a female peacock with eggs on her mouth. I placed the female on my 150 and the sick on the 29. I started to feed the fishes on the 150 and I noticed that the fins on the JD looks very streamilly bad and so does the balla shark. Now I want to treat the 150 with Melafix but I know it will kill the eggs that the peacock has. So I guess my question is...... if I salt the tank tonight will it kill the eggs or its safe? I want to melafix it so bad but I m afraid that most of my fishes will die because that stuff is so strong.
Here is the list of the fish right now on the 150

1. JD, 2. Bala Shark, 4. Peacocks, 2. Red Zebras, 1. Arow, 1. Gar, 2. Fire Mouths, 1. TC, 1. Red Jewls, 1. A Convict

Sounds like you are having some problems, most likely from a poor choice of tankmates - and different water requirements.

I would look at the source of the problem first, before just "treating it" because it will happen over and over again.

When you say poor choice of tankmates are you talking about that I shouldnt mix Africans with South Americans cichlids? I mean which fishes shouldnt be in there? and I dont mean to sound ignorate, but I thought all these fishes had the same water requirements. I mean I assumed that the Gar and the JD need 72 to 75 and all others 72 to 79. The Alkalinite of the africans are normally higher that the S. americans???

Ps: Besides the past two arows that I purchased, I never had a problem when it came to diseases in my tank, Two years ago my male Red Zebra died of ich or some type of parasite.

*typically* african cichlids prefer hard, alkaline water and SA cichlids are soft, acidic. I agree with John, never had a problem with melafix. I'm not aware of the truth behind: "most of my fishes will die because that stuff is so strong." Melafix is a good general antibacterial agent, but I don't believe it's that strong/potent - certainly not like maracyn, Metronidazole, tetracycline, etc

So will Melafix or Aquarium Salt kill the eggs that she has on her mouth or no?
I want to start treatment as soon as possible because I just cant afford to loose that JD, but I also need those frys.
I wish I had a place to put the peacock for now but I dont so.....

Hey man
I am more concerned about the CAUSE of these problems. "just" treating the water will not prevent further damage.

Tank you very much for your concern Santoury, but I dont know what is the cause of this problem. If perhaps is because I have fishes that shouldnt be together than I would think the best thing to do is to separate all SA and Africans in different tanks, treat the fishes in both tanks with Melafix or some General Cure medicine.
Then I should just check the filter media that is on my 150(like change the filter media on my Eheim). take everything out of my 150, clean every inch of it including the gravel. Let it run for a few weeks and then slowly start adding fishes with same water requirements?

To begin with, we need your current water parameters, and any aggression observations you have noticed. Also, would be helpful to know the history of your water changes/tank maintenance, feedings, etc.
As for the tankmates - You have some very aggressive Africans which are likely nipping the fins of your Jack and the Bala, and these nips are probably becoming infected, possibly due to some water parameter issues. Depending on the size, the gar may also in fact be biting the other fish.

right now all i can say is that i would move the peacock to a smaller tank and then treat the tank while finding out the problem's cause at the same time.

good luck:)
