I saw the show Guinea Pig last night and he was letting fish bite him. One of the fish was a snakehead, it didnt bite him but I know why they are illegal here.... lol

Not one of the reasons but it showed a clip of the snakehead and a feeder, the snakehead was about 18"s and the feeder about 6". The SH just ripped the feeder in half in one quick motion, that was crazy and they have crazy teeth...

but they can live out of water for 3 days, and they will attack small animals like cats and small dogs, which is why they are illegal in Ontario and other US states...

Excuse my amazement but I have never seen a snake head before since they are illegal here lol.

Yea i think its for like couple of hours.

They said 3 days, and if it was just a couple of hours i doubt they would be illegal...

Dont believe the hype.

3 days totally out of water is totally BS, they could live out of water for some time, possably upto 3 days in extreame cases in there native habitat, they need to keep there bodies moist though ,so could move through damp grass ,marshy areas , paddy feilds etc (like you would find where they live), you will just not see one crawl out of lake mead and make its way to the strip ,it would dry out in minutes at most , also although they are known to take small mammals out of water (usually under tree stumps etc on the river bank and even then only certain species do this) i think the stories of them taking dogs and cats is BS for the following reasons.
1 snakehead on land is a very clumsy animal dogs and cats are not and could do a slow walk faster than a snakehead,
2 secondly although some of these fish are big it would need to be a tiny dog or cat to be eaten by a snakehead , they cannot dislocate there jaws like a snake or strike like one either
3 by the time they got out of the pond crawled uphill to someones garden where a dog would be sleeping they would be so knackered they would not be in any state to tackle such a large animal
4 no-one has yet to show me a picture of a specimen who's mouth is as big as a cat or dog . and although they can and do bite fish in half ,biting a fatal chunk out of a animal such as dog and cat is just no going to happen

now i do believe dogs have been attacked in the water and passably been killed , most probably from the dog wondering toward a parent protecting fry , attacks on human have also been reported ,but i dont believe there has been any CONFIRMED human fatality's

there main reason for coming out of water is to find another body of water to live in ,not to hunt , they might want to do this for several reasons , lack of prey , evaperating body of water , to much compatition ect ,

Li this was the video I was telling you...Ive also conributed my vid here...

well that just confirmed my suspicions , another program by people who know nothing about these fish ,

1st of all , the title comes up Chinese snakehead ,Channa asiatica , that fish is not a asiatica it is not even from china , it is a cobra / great snakehead ,channa maurlia , that tiny feeder it bit in half is really not impressive and certainly can not be compaired to a dog or cat , and what on earth where they thinking taking the fish out of water to try and get it to bite him ,did they really think it was going to attack / strike like a snake , even the so called owner sounded clueless ,no wonder these things are hyped up out of all proportion ,

mean fish (compared to other fish) = yes
aggressive feeders in there own environment = yes
can breath air and survive for short periods of time out of water = yes
(which is by no means exclusive to Channa)

eat dogs and cats = n0
eat small children = no
can live for days without ANY water = no
reach 7ft = no
can walk to walmart whenever is feels like a snack = no

this is just getting ridiculous , anyone old enough to remember piranha the movie and all the hype ?

then jaws and all the surrounding hype about sharks ,heck shark populations plummeted ?

now we have got snakeheads and all the hype surrounding it ,
