My planted tank should instead be called a snail tank. Every time I look at it I think the population of snails has doubled. I suppose I'm stuck with these guys forever now?

I bought a bunch of anachris and in them there were 2 snails. Both about 1/2" I thought nothing of them overpopulating. I look in my tank today and see over 1000 snails. All about 1/4" and smaller. I can't get rid of them anyway! It's crazy!

You can hand pick them out, use zucchini or similar vegetable to trap then remove them or get a couple Assassin snails that will kill and eat the pest snails.

Too bad it's a planted tank because clown loaches will eat your snails within a week

Hmm...whats the deal with planted tanks and clown loaches? I've had about half a dozen clown loaches in there to eat snails and all of them have died. I've been wondering what it was because it doesnt affect the other fish at all. I bought them from different stores and I almost never lose fish at all. But as long as I've been keeping fish, I've never had a planted tank or clown loaches before. In fact, I only bought the loaches because of the snails. Now that I've had the planted tank and the loaches...I've kind of grown fond of both.

Thanks. I might buy a couple of those guys. These other snails don't really bother me that much but I'm surprised by how many there are now. I have no idea what snails do to a planted tank but they don't seem to be doing much damage.

I had the same deal in my planted 36g bowfront and and added 4 assassin snails who seem to be keeping things in check. There are still some after a little less than a month but there aren't so many i can see them from across the room anymore. I've never had clown loaches in my planted tank(size issues) but my lfs always has them in the 125 they use for plants.

The CL's are just awesome fish by themselves. Snails seem to be their favorite food but i'm not quite sure what would cause them die. Possibly the lower temp of the planted tank water?

Actually, I thought they had ick so I bumped the temp up. At first I thought it must be from where I got them but then the same thing happened to another batch from a different store. But like I said....the other fish are completely unaffected in any way.
