I just read the sticky on the best food for Arowanas. I made up some home made food and discovered I need to remove an ingredient.
Here's my recipe:
1 lbs Beef Heart (this will be removed next batch)
1 lbs of Squid cleaned with skin
2 lbs of Octopus cleaned with skin
1 lbs of Krill.
1 Large can of Tetra Jumbo Sticks
I ran it through a fine meat grinder twice. I almost looks like lumpy paste.
I froze the mixture in the small party cube ice trays so it's about the same size as San Francisco frozen Beef Heart cubes. My Aro loves it, he's about 18-19" long, 4" from back to belly and a 1.5 - 2" across the head.
When I first brought him home he would not eat pellets, he would only eat frozen krill, now he'll eat Jumbo Sticks and my Home made food.
Looking for help/suggestions. Here are some snap shots of my Silver Aro.

Cheers,

Nice lookin aro, do you feed the food frozen or thawed?

sweet

I've been feeding it frozen but after reading the sticky I'm letting it thaw partially. The cubes stay together but they sink faster when partially frozen. I'm going to pull the beef heart on the next batch and use Tilapia instead.

why don't you feed him small market shrimp
:screwy: dont you see he has a mix of nutrients why feed just MP when he has mixed many types into 1

Octopus and squid aren't readilly available where I live but I use a similar mixture consisting of shelled prawns, tilapia, and NLS pellets. I switch it up each time. Salmon, walleye, and pike are some fish that I often use.

my little arowana isn't picky, but I bet my little guy would love it.

id love to try it for my aro xD

Do you think a food processor would work? I don't have a meet grinder.
