i have had my science project going for about a little over a year. it is worked great but my hair alge has gone craze. i bought chinese alge eaters thay work but my fish eats them someone told me to add nitrate. any other suggestion..

I would not add nitrate. I would make sure your phosphate levels are low and up your co2 if possible. then I would add some trace fertilizers. you might have excess nitrate that might be fueling the algea
 
That looks like a good size tank so you may want to look into pressurized co2. As far as ferts go...http://www.gregwatson.com/ thats the best bang for you buck. Just mix it yourself. If you want a good ready to go product then the Flurish line of products is the way to go but can get costly.
