ive got a CO2 machine and the only way to get refills is to order them online and pay a ton on shipping. do any of you make your own CO2 mixture? what do you put in it? what provides the most CO2? i just dont wanna spend a ton of money each time i need another CO2 cartridge. its in a bottle so it would be pretty easy to shove things in it.

sugar and yeast.

1 C. Sugar, 1/4 tsp. yeast (brewers yeast, the kind for wine, is the best), 1 tsp baking soda, and 3 C. warm water.

Try using Jello instead of plain warm water. Pour the yeast on top of the Jello. Trust me I've done this on my 15g planted with HUGE success. Bottles last 3-4x as long and are incredibly more consistent as teh yeast are forced to pace themselves to consume nutrients from the Jello in a top-to-bottom fashion. I have a link somewhere on my PC that I'll have to dig up for you this afternoon.

I use potatoes instead of sugar.
IDK why I tried this.
The smell is horrible when recharging and
it works. Great.
