Alright so I have 2 30-60 aquatech filters on my 40 gallon and I wanted to change the crappy Walmart ez change filters. IV heard you can make your own. Has any body made home made ones for hob filters? What ever I make has to be able to keep up with a Bullhead catfish and a red tail Catfish
home made media cartridges?

not for long. if properly cared for both of those fish will outgrow a 40G tank in 6 months.
I just use sponges in my HOB filters. I buy the biggest they have at the petstore and cut them to fit. I have no idea of the brand I bought though.
I am switching to poret foam, but am in the process and though it's been delivered, I haven't actually tried it yet.

where did you buy your fish dude those fish are going to outgrow your tank.... that rtc could be up to 4 feet one day
I know how big they get. I have a 700 gallon tank for them. There all baby's about 4 inches a peice in there own tanks.
I would get rid of the Walmart filters. I can go on Dr Foster and Smith and get Emporer filters, sometime the 400 is on sale for less than 50.00. I use 2 of those on a 75 gallon tank. I like a lot of filtration. There are some filter pads you can get and cut them to size. Also, those should be nice cats full grown. I live in an area where there is no real variety in catfish in my lfs.
Redt Tail Catfish...........I too have a red tail catfish...........Currently, I am growing him out in a 125....I made a wet/dry filter for the 6 foot tank..........I went to TARGET and OFFICE DEPOT for all the parts.......I spent less then $60 for the whole setup, and $80 for the pump..............
