I'm sure this is one of those things that has been beaten to death somewhere on here but I haven't seen anything for awhile and was curious....

1. Do saltwater and freshwater fish require different vitamins and stuff from their food?
2. Any good recipes out there for my lovelies?

I ask because while at the grocery store on Sat, I picked up three scallops to see if the fish would eat it. Looking for a knife, I saw the cheese grater and had to wonder. Well, it worked out great so I thawed the shrimp and tilapia I had already cut up with a knife and ran that through the cheese grater. I mixed it all together in a bowl and added half a capfull of garlic guard and then made tiny fish food packets with freezer paper and froze it. I intend to feed it on Sundays as Wednesday is pellet day.

Is this a good, healthy concoction for the fish or should I start over? It made me curious as to what others have come up with for homemade fish food.

Marines need a higher protine:fat ratio, in the sence of far less fat, which is why its not a good idea to feed them fresh water feeders, as they are very high in fat.

Very Interesting...

Good to know. So I can pretty much mix anything together, I just gotta keep my ratios in mind? So how is the mix I have on the protein:fat scale? It's probably three parts tilapia, two parts shrimp, one part scallop. I didn't measure, just went with what I had but that's probably what it worked out to be.

Adding some nori or other sushi type seaweed to the mix is always good, and grinding up the shrimp shells in a food processor also could add nutrients to a normal part of an ocean diet, in replacement of some of the Tilapia bulk.

Thank for the advice! I can't take it out but I can start over. I'd be out three scallops and two shrimp, not a huge loss, lol. I'll see what I can dig up at the grocery store.

Is the thread in general salt? If you give me a time period, it would give me something to do with myself. Lol
