has anyone here ever made a homemade pellet before? I was thinking of trying it for arowana pellets using some of the excess foods I have around. this is what I have come up with so far.

I want to grind the following
dried krill for protein and red color enhancer
spirulina flake food for protein and blue color enhancer
dried crickets protein

I am also wanting to add the following for vitamins and taste
seachem vitachem for all the vitamins and minerals
seachem garlic guard for parasite control and flavor enhancer

I was going to add the liquid suppliments to the dried foods and then roll the "dough" cut it into bite size peices and throw it into the food dehydrator

what do you think? will it work?

Sounds like a great idea. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Instead of dehydrating, you could simply spread the mix on a cookie sheet and pour knox gelatin over it then cut it into cubes. Viola instant gel food cubes.

it's worth a try and if it works you could start your own fish food company. LOL

That sounds like a great idea Dodgefreak. How about using one of those old pasta machines to produce strands and then just chop them into cubes from there. On the same note, how about one of those play-doh extruders and then slice off pellets as fast as it is extruded out.

thats a good idea. I will try and work on it this weekend.

hmmm..... sounds all good and great, but uhhh.... I'm hoping your planning on putting that food dehydrator in the garage lol... My freeze dried krill I can smell from a room away!

I now find this humorous becuase 10 years later, and I have made some food in a dehydrator in my garage and my fish love it.
