Archocentrus sp. - Local fish store (ThatFish Place) just got these in.

They listed'em at the store as "Rare Honduran Red Fin".

I saw pics on google of adults they're pretty colorful nice finnage.

Anybody own one? Is their agression as high as a true convict? Should they be keeped singularly or in packs? Are they really that rare? Also I have a few spare 30 gallon tanks will a few of them live in a 30? (I'm not scared to stack the deck - daily Maint.)

Opinions and suggestions welcomed please..... that i'd ask before purchasing this time - trial by fire.

They are call Honduran Red Points (HRP). You don't see them a lot in most pet stores yet, but they have been available online for sometime. So I guess they are still fairly rare. One pair in a 30g would be perfect. They are not as aggressive as convicts, but still pretty mean, especially when breeding and protecting fry. What is the store asking for them? I wouldn't pay much more then $10 a piece for them.

:iagree: they aren't nearly as aggressive as normal convicts but when spawning they will still defend their fry. they don't get as large as normal convicts nor are their spawns as large. they are a beautiful fish though and well worth keeping. :)

Same here.I have a few and a breeding pair in a 30 long with some ameca splendens and they are better looking and less violent than "regular" convicts.Never seen one in a store but they practically give them away at club auctions.

Not rare. Camph bought about 20 of them at an auction for about $7.00 total. Some large some tiny.

My LPS has them all of the time.
