How do you sex HRPs? I've been told you look for fin extensions, but I'm really unsure other than that... Any suggestions or surefire ways?

I ask because my big male of my group of now 4 (one had to be relocated to the ram tank because he was being beaten up) is chasing everyone in the 20 long.

Anyways - how do you sex them?

Usually the same way as convicts...by the small amount of orange on their bellies. HRP females dont always have the orange, but do most of the time.

Other than that, you can vent them.

They're 1.5" at the smallest and 2.5" at the biggest (male) The male has the red in the fin and is very colorful (blue everywhere). The rest of them all have the dark black bars, while the male's blue covers it. thoughts?

^^^^ That.

red doesnt matter, blue doesnt matter, stripes dont matter. Its really simple.

Heres one of my old females. See the orange?

Oh, I have a female that looks like that in my ram tank (the one that got beaten up and was hiding from the big male)

Thought the orange was missing scales... Should I re-introduce her? or no?

Ok heres what you gotta know. I The males, when mature, will have thinner bars than females. the females will apear much darker in color and when the males are ready to spawn with females they will get a yellow/gold sheen near heir bellies. Sometimes this will not show if your males is beat up a lot, aka when they are stressed.

Should I reintroduce the female though? Once in a while the male swims with the other HRPs in the 20 long, but a lot of the time he chases them... They haven't lost scales or have bad fin nips, but it's pretty regular
