Hello everyone,

I have a 30 gal with 8 Ameca Splendens and 11 juvenile HRPs ranging from the biggest at at least 3 inches to 1 at just over an inch, with most of them being around 2 inches. The plan is to end up with 1 or 2 pairs of HRPs. . I've noticed a lot of chasing and gill flaring but it all seems territorial. I know they're still on the younger side and I've only had them since August 16th but I'm wondering if there are too many of them for any to pair up. Thanks!

When I first acquired my HRPs as juvies, I grew them out in a 55 gal, but a pair formed rather quickly (male 3", female 1") and I had to remove all others because the spawning pair became quite aggressive, trying to kill all others.

They spawned a number of times in that size tank, and remained a compatible pair.

I removed a 1 st batch of fry to a breeder box, because while still young the parents started pre-spawning again quite soon after.

Ok thanks so a pair should still be able to stake out a territory and breed at the current stocking level of HRPs? And when they do pair up I'd remove the extras.
