I got these HRP's from Jeff a few weeks ago. I could not be happier with them. They very good looking fish. I read all over while doing research that you cant really capture the colors with the camera and it is true. The Leucistics are very pearly white with sheen to them and white bars. The HRP are almost the color of powder blue gouramies with that same metallic sheen and dark slate blue stripes. They are very passive. They give chase to each other every once in a while but the seem to be even less aggressive than the 3 thoricthys meeki they are in with. I really like the shape, color, and personality of these fish they are growing on me as my favorite cichlid. I cant wait until they grow out to full size.

Stock list
2 x Rio Danli HRP's (I think male but still figuring out sexing)
4 x Leucistic HRPs ( no idea what sex)
3 x Thorichthys meeki (last remaining of fry born in this tank, I believe all male)
2 x Texas cichlids
1 x rubber lip pleco

I would like to add yellow convicts or Thoricththys Passionas just to add a little contrasting color. Or possibly green phantom if I could ever find them.

Does it somehow make them better they came from Rapps?
Nice fish.

HRP are often crossed with convicts in local fish stores and them being a true HRP is often debated. Getting them from Rapps you know you are getting purebreed and likely very close to wild caught as he deals in many wild caught cichlids. (not claiming at all that these are wild caught) I am also giving credit to someone that I had a very pleasant business transaction with.

nice setup!
what is your tank size?
I think you'll get problems if your Texas are formed pair.

Thank you
Tanks size is 75 Gallons
I am prepared to move the Texas if need be. The female has shown breeding colors in the past but the male seems uninterested. If the do start to breed I will remove the female as I am not interested in fry at this time. Unless fry is from the HRP's if the HRP have fry I know I can sell those. My Male Texas goes insane on any fish his size or bigger but seems very uninterested in fish smaller than him. So all seems good for now but I am prepared an watching closely.

Also Rapps sells HRPs collected from Rio Danli, which is a very colorful collection point for these fish.

Your HRPs are passive now, but wait until they pair up & spawn! They are tough little fish.

Figures :). My FM parents where passive until they spawned and then they had fish twice there size pinned to the corners. Thats why i tried to keep all males I didn't want anymore spawns.

I have never owned these before so I am learning only by reading. I read they are much more passive than convicts. Will they clear out the tank when they spawn like a convict will? I did read they don't spawn as often as convicts.

I wouldn't cross the danli hrp with the white "hrp" they are a mystery as to where they came from.....

They would still be HRP's just not location specific. I don't really see any issues with that. Its not like I am hybridizing.

There has been records of wild caught leucisitc HRP along with other HRP. I do believe they are considered the same fish. When you breed the two there is a small % leucistic and majority regular color its not like you get % marbled coloring as you would if you breed two colors of the same fish say black and white mollies for example.
