Hey guys i recently came across these guys and i know they are a close family to the regular convicts. Now my original plan was to use a bunch of female convicts as dither fish in my 135 Gal tank. Along with these guys Oscar-JD-Jag-GT. Now im wondering would it be possible to use "HRP" instead? I mean would they get along fine/stand up with the larger CA/SA fish?

I mentioned using female convicts instead of males is because reason is they're more colorful and plus they take a lot less space even at full grown. Now im not sure how well a pack of 5-6 females would do. Any ideas? With this many swimming around in the tank i figured aggression may lower drastically.

Now if i am to use "HRP" which one would you recommend in terms of color wise male or female? I know males will grow a lot larger but there max size from what i have read is only 5" which should be big enough i think not to be eaten by my oscar once its fully grown...(hoping lol)

Well anyways if anyone else has any ideas of good dither fish that would be great. These are just the types that are easily acquired where i am from so ya. Also if anyone has ideas on the stocking wise let me know thx.

Current Stock Plan

Royal pleco
Jaguar
Tiger Oscar
Jack Dempsey
Green Terror - (Gold Suam)
5x-6x Dither Fish

Tank is 6'Lx18"Wx2'H- Also will be using a large trickle filter system 60Gal (half full) - so estimating 150-160 Gal of water in total. About 8x-10x turnover per hour is what im going for.

Is this too much/can i add more fish?

Thanks

Hmm really is this from experience because from what i have read on the internet is that they are less aggressive than the cons but can still hold their ground..I could be wrong anyways thanks for the input ill take that into consideration lol dont want to end up with dead fish lol.

They're a bit more fragile than cons too. Though I could see it possibly working if you have plenty of small hiding places for them where the big fish can't get to them.

Hmm, well i guess ill try to put more plants in and such might help. Im trying to have less things around the tank just because these guys will most likely do their own re-decorating later on. Im just worried they might not reach full size as fast as the oscar and my other fish. Anyone seen these guys grow to 6" +?

4" is the biggest I've seen. Idk about other people.

I see, well as far as my stock plan goes what do you think?
The stock sounds fine to me, jaguars typically aren't too aggressive towards non-parachromis. Just got a feeling the oscar will be getting the short end of the stick as all of those other fish will be stronger than it. What kind of dithers are you going with?

Plecos create more waste than they're worth, IME. The tank footprint is big enough for that stocking, but you're either going to have to raise them all together from about 3", or you're gonna have to toss them in together at the same time so that no one fish has the advantage over the other.

As far as more stock, you can probably add a texas to the mix or a pair of nics.

Just make sure that your original stock are all males so that none of them will pair up and breed, causing a lot of aggro problems.

I would more worry about the Jag eating things later on rather than your Oscar ;)

I have a few males in a 125 with a bunch of other CA's..

I think you would do ok for now.. but you never know..

my hrp is a mean bastard beats the $hit out of my much larger freddy and jd
