I'm planning to collect wild specimens of Parazacco Spilurus and Opsariicthys Bidens for my aquarium. I want to collect Hong Kong native fish. I already have tilapia zilli, I would also like sweet fish but those are protected and are endangered. Basically, I am going to start taking me some photos on the hike trail. I would also take photos of what we catch. I'm also going to need to know, is it harder to keep wild fish than captive bred fish?

I keep US natives, and haven't found them any more difficult. in fact often it's the opposite. I got a dozen wild caught cories shipped from South America, then across the country to me and all of them survived. I bought 8 captive bred from a local shop and only had 4 survive.

Thanks! I will try to catch some Parazacco and I'll try to find Opsariicthys Bidens. I have already got a tilapia zilli juvenile in my growout. I might also collect some Micropterus Salmoides.

Oh right. And I don't think I can keep micropterus together with those because largemouth are predatory. I got the tilapia zilli from a feeder fish packet.

Tilapia zilli are all over the drainage in my area.

Oddball, would it be fine to keep wild specimens of species that aren't endangered in hong kong? I read all of the rules and tips on our websites and none of them tell me. I just know that some of them aren't allowed because 2 of the streams in hong kong are actually for research purposes. I would hike up to some of those streams to get fish because one of them holds nearly 60 species. I just want to get my hands on some of the ones that aren't endangered.

Although you may find the Tilapia in your area, they are as stated above, invasive, and native to Africa and parts of the mideast.
They are found just about everywhere, I have found them in canals and ponds all over Florida, to isolated cenotes in Mexico.

you should contact your local wildlife government agency because it's different everywhere. in my state we can keep sunfish easily because there's no size limit and no season. with other species you can only posess the fish between certain times of year, and some can't be transported live. different areas of the country allow less, some allow more.
and as always never return captured fish to where you caught them, or anywhere else they can come in contact with wild populations.

Currently, the Wild Animals Protection Ordinance (WAPO, Cap. 170) in Hong Kong does not contain any freshwater fish species. There's legislation in the works to add FW fish to the protection laws but, it hasn't happened yet.

To date, the only protection FW fish have in HK is via placing waterways off-limits from fishing and collecting. You may be able to obtain a limited collection permit to collect in those areas. But, I haven't any idea of where you need to apply.
