Looking at getting a wolf and have a few options. I’m between a black and a mala with the mala having a option for Brazilian or Ecuadorian collection locations. How much of a difference between the two river systems would it make? I can’t find any info online to help with making a decision between the malas

Brazil is a big country so even within the bodies of water that run through Brazil will show great diversity in morphology. Now with that being said, the Brazilian mala I have (collected around Manua region) is brownish/reddish with very bright orange eyes. The Ecuador malas that I've owned tend to be more silver in color, even some having a greenish hue to the eyes.

Again, this is solely based on my experience, I don't have a reference to a scientific article or any sort if that you were looking for.

I’m gonna guess that the Brazil is the top? You helped a lot with that. Not looking for anything super scientific just if there were noticeable differences between the regions
Yes exactly. Those are not my pics, I found them on Google but represent what I was referring to. Also, not sure what you're looking for as far as the personality of the fish, but I found that bigger wild caught wolves tend to be less active and shy when it comes to eating in front of you and whatnot (although not always the case). So if you're looking to get a more engaging fish I'd recommend getting a smaller one and grow it out. It would also raise your chance of cohabitation with other fish.

Both are listed as 4-5in juvi so I would be raising it out. Did the same when I picked up my ery years back small as a cig and was pushing 12in when it passed. Big fan of the growth process it’s really rewarding and cool to watch happen
