I started with one tiny baby Jaguar, but I really want to end up with a male, so I didn't want to find out after raising the little one up that its a girl and have to start all over again.
So I went to the LFS and picked up 3 more.
1 is a bit larger than the rest, but they are all just a smidge bigger than the original one I got. The first one I got is the lighter one in the bottom left of the 1st picture and the bottom middle of the 2nd picture.

I'm hoping I get a boy out of the bunch.

I suppose it is WAY to early to tell on any of these. Not to mention the pictures suck. Hopefully soon I can tell if I have male so I can take the rest back.

jags are great,a couple years ago,i bought one hoping the same as you,for a male.turned out to be a female and she was great too.if you have the tank space maybe grow all them out to get a pair? what size tank are you gonna have?

Great decision on getting more than one ...Last July when after many years i decided to go with a jag again.. I ended up with a female first when I bought just one... It took me about 4 months to get another one to end up with my current male.. My plan was to keep a single male specimen but I( and my male jag )got attached to the female and we still have her:)... Good luck on developing your nice male jag ...looking forward to your future posts....

Thanks :) I have a 125. Its probably the minimum for a male Jag, so if a pair forms out of the bunch, i'm not sure if my tank is large enough to accommodate a pair. Although that would be really cool if it was!

The only other problem I would have is if they breed. I don't know what I would do with the fry.

What do you guys think?

Also, another question. They are currently in a 10 gallon. The only thing keeping me from putting them in the 125 now is there is a large Tinfoil barb in there now. About 9-10".

I don't know if a 1" Jag would get attacked by a 10" Tinfoil barb??

i would wait, the tinfoil is not going to be used to tankmates, also without a school he probably has erratic behaviour.you will need many hiding spots in your 10 gal.to grow them out some more.then i would sell or trade the tinfoil.

ok. Thanks for the advice. I will take it.
I will miss the tinfoil, he's pretty. ALTHOUGH, my father in law next door has a large koi pond. I wonder if I could throw him in there and when the Jag is big, bring the tinfoil back?
Nah that probably wouldn't work....

I'll just trade him or sell him.. Although I think I might have to do it sooner than later. I'm going to need to do water changes every single day on the 10 gallon otherwise. :P
