I was wondering if anyone could tell what type of pikes these are, sorry for the poor quality. I will try to get a better shot, just they don't stop moving while i try to take a pic.

Yesh, those would be the ones that are now being called Crenicichla sp. 'atabapo II'. They were once called sp. 'atabapo fire' but the atabapo II seems more fitting, as 'atabapo I' gets a richer red color. The females though will look amazing as adults. Males are a little less colorful.

High five for picking them up. They are probably my second fav. of the Lugubris pikes next to lenticulata. :)

wait how big are they? because the markings on the one on the right looks like a compress. and the body color. do the fins have yellow base with black rays?
just throwing that out there. sorry peanut not trying to diss your id. just a thought from me because they are blurry as hell

They are 100% sp. 'atabapo II' . Comps. look COMPLETELY different, even when they are the same size.

I can sorta understand your reasoning for them being comps in a way, they just look much different to me. The humeral blotch, suborbital tear drop, and the thin, vertical lines above the lateral line. Plus I've kept sp. 'atabapo II'. hahaha

You done right sir. Don't ever be timid to question an ID. We all make mistakes, and thats how we learn, by helping each other out. :)

Still sticking with sp. 'atabapo II'. :)

They get about 12 to 14". Totally cool. :) You'll have fun with them.

Keep their water quality up though, since they come from black water areas, if the quality of the water gets neglected, these guys can get HITH FAST!

awesome pikes. like peanut said make sure the water quality is good. ive never kept them but seems most adults that ive seen have gotten hith. they are gorgeous tho.
