hey guys. I was wondering if anybody can tell me how hoplias curupira would be mixed with Crenicichla pike cichlids and Cichla peacock bass.

Any experiences would be great to hear. Thank you!

Tank space is big enough and got big bruisers then it can work. Lot of fish movement help but like moe said it’ll vary.

Seen other tanks with pbass and curus and large red pikes mixed in there. Seems to work but no long term knowledge on it.

Agreed. There is things that'll aid in the likelihood of it working but from what I see fish can develop a dislike for other specimens, you just gotta hope they don't dislike eachother lol. A pike can very well kill a wolf as well if the wolf is a punk, some can be since personality varies from one fish to another. My tank was small in regards to them though. Both were 14-15". Tank was only 120.

Thanks everyone. Probably won’t risk it since the pikes I plan to get are not the ones I’d feel comfortable risking. A shame...really wanted to try my hand at a wolf.

Thanks again!

I've kept a mala and different like species together with suckers on different occasions all different specimens, pike species were in the sax group. Grow them together is the best bet. I'd say get the pike a little bigger.

I've raised a curupira with cichla and with bichirs, but idk if I would be willing to try with pikes if you aren't willing to risk them. They're so similar in shape, and both species can be boisterous....it's definitely a risk but could work. For it to work, you want your curupira to be the smallest fish in the tank, make sure that you have plenty of space. Also make sure that the wolf eats his fill.

I have kept wolf fish with countless different types of tank mates it'll vary from big to small in my time of owning this monster he had killed 2 SD but I was kind of asking for it 16" wolf 2" Tiger SD thinking if I had a big enough group he wouldnt single it out but he did . It comes down to individuals every fish is different

The reason I say it's unlikely to work with curu, is because my one specimen seemed to very easily form dislike for anyone who challeneged him and once he did so the only one able to deal with it was the odoe who's faster and occupied the top quite a bit. Like being territorial as well and occupying the same area and looking similar in shape asks for trouble from what I've seen. Now if you're pike is a punk and will take a bite and run I think you'll be fine possibly. But that's unlikely depending on the species.

Side note, the pike pictured lasted two nights. Curu are also fairly nocturnal, noticed mine seemed to take naps being both active during the day and night but also sedentary for long periods of time during both, which is when the pike will sleep.
