Beautiful pair. Have you raised any of their offspring?

Same question. They are a very lovely pair. I hear they can also stand up for themselves against some of the rougher cichlids. I would like to keep these some day. You're doing a great job with them. Keep it up!

Thanks guys! I have two spawns that I'm raising - their second and fourth spawns, the fourth being the most recent. Their first and third spawns I left with them, but the water is not soft enough for the eggs to hatch.

Here is a link to my history with them. They can be very tough each other and also other fish, but still only moderately aggressive.

Thanks for the kind words!!

Gorgeous fish. I'd love to get a mate for my big psittacus but it was absolutely brutal to the others in the group and I had to sell all but that one. I have heard the pairs can be rough on one another. I wonder if they'd be that way in a community setting? My best luck with severums has been to let them spawn in the community tank and it seems to allow them to direct their aggression toward others instead of each other. Do you have any fish with them?

Thanks! I had them with a large group (14 at one time!!) and these two bonded in that setting. They are now in a divided tank with a real nice breeding pair of Amatitliana siquia on the other side - both pairs are breeding six feet apart and they sometimes spar at the divider when feeding, but the parrots don't have a nick on either of them. I attribute the bonding during the 12 months before they began breeding.

They look outstanding! What do you use to buffer the water for them?

Thanks!

Nothing special added to the water for the pair. For the fry, I removed the eggs laid in a flowerpot into a bucket of distilled/tap mix, add aeration, heat and meth blue.
